WARREN, Ohio – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ultium Cells teamed up with the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center (JACBCC) in nearby Youngstown, Ohio, to spread awareness and raise money for Joanie's Promise, a program that ensures anyone in the community in need of diagnostic breast care services has access to the best care available regardless of their ability to pay.
Ultium Cells held numerous events throughout the month of October to raise funds including a “Paint the Plant Pink” t-shirt fundraiser and a “Park for Pink” raffle. The combined events coupled with the team's collaboration helped raise a total of $5,022 for Joanie's Promise. To spread awareness and promote early detection, Ultium Cells also hosted the Joanie Abdu mobile mammography screening unit on October 31 and November 11 from 8:00 AM–2:30 PM, where employees and family members had the opportunity to receive their yearly mammogram.
"Fighting breast cancer takes everyone,” said Ultium Cells Ohio Plant Director Kareem Maine. “The Ultium Cells team came together to join this fight by raising awareness, conducting exams on site, and raising funds for the cause. I'm proud that our team is making a difference in the community in which we work."
“We are extremely grateful to Ultium Cells, the employees and management for this generous gift,” said Mercy Health Foundation Senior Gift Officer Gina Marinelli. “This donation will allow us to continue to provide world class care to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. You are truly making a difference in our community, and we are grateful for that.”
These contributions will help Joanie's Promise continue to deliver the most accurate prevention, early detection, diagnosis and support services available in the Mahoning Valley area.
